Relocation study

Every successful move starts long before the first moving truck leaves.

The preparation determines which choices you can make later.

An incomplete inventory, unclear responsibilities or too tight planning often only become visible during implementation. A relocation study identifies these points of interest at an earlier stage.

This way you make choices based on information, with an overview of your moving costs, risks and business continuity.

What is a relocation study?

A relocation study is an independent analysis that maps out your relocation project in advance. Before you compare quotes and determine the implementation plan, we investigate what your organisation needs to make the switch.

We look beyond transport. The operation of your organisation, the readiness of the building and the available resources together determine which approach is feasible.

We will also include the old location. We determine which goods are left behind, what is given a second destination and what is disposed of responsibly. In this way we prepare the release and the agreed handover of the building.

What are we investigating?

  • Current and future situation
  • Objectives and critical processes
  • Inventory and moving volumes
  • Accessibility and logistics
  • Risks and dependencies
  • Stakeholders and responsibilities
  • Planning and phasing
  • Moving costs and budget
  • Clearance management, reuse and disposal
  • Communication and guidance
Analysis of building plans in preparation for a move

From analysis to decisions

Insight that will help you move forward.

The result is a practical advice document. You can see which assumptions have been confirmed, which choices are still open and what is needed to start responsibly.

Pre-study questions

  • What really needs to be included?
  • How much time and capacity are needed?
  • Which processes should not come to a standstill?
  • What is a realistic moving budget?
  • Who makes which decision?

Substantiated choices after the study

  • An inventory as a basis for scope and volumes.
  • A proposal for planning and phasing.
  • Risks with measures and those responsible.
  • A cost estimate with assumptions and uncertainties.
  • Clear priorities and decision points.

Moving costs and budget preparation

How much will your move really cost?

Transport is one part. Preparation, disassembly, assembly, specialised treatment, temporary storage and internal deployment can also influence the budget.

We make the items and assumptions visible and compare multiple scenarios where necessary. An estimate is not a supplier quotation: it forms the basis for requesting, comparing and adjusting quotations in a more targeted manner.

For which organisations?

Our approach in five steps

  1. 1

    Explore

We discuss your organisation, objectives and preconditions.

  2. 2

    Analyze

We map buildings, goods, processes and risks.

  3. 3

    Designs

We will discuss with your interior architect and coordinate the design, moving strategy and planning.

  4. 4

    Advising

You will receive substantiated advice with priorities and a cost estimate.

  5. 5

    Support

We are working out labelling and moving instructions. If desired, we can supervise the move and clearance management until the handover of the old location.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to start?

As soon as a move or redesign becomes concrete, preferably before the final planning and request for quotes. Even if the moving date has already been determined, a study can help to prioritise outstanding choices and risks.

Should the new location already be determined?

Not necessary. A study can also reveal preconditions for a new location. If the location has not yet been determined, we indicate which conclusions are provisional and must be re-tested later.

How long does a relocation study take?

That depends on the number of locations, the size, the complexity and the availability of information. We agree on the scope, the required cooperation and the lead time in advance.

Does the study oblige us to order the version from VM360°?

No. The study is a separate consultancy assignment. You can use the findings for your own project team and for coordination with implementing partners.
